The Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced the recovery of 125 stolen manhole covers in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to cracking down on criminals targeting public infrastructure.

According to the command, the latest recovery was made on February 4, 2025, during intelligence-led operations in the Dei-Dei area, where officers discovered the stolen items hidden in a pit.

The police stated that the breakthrough was made possible through a tip-off from a vigilant informant, underscoring the importance of public cooperation in tackling crime.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting infrastructure theft.

She quoted the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, as saying, “We will not relent in our search for stolen public assets.

“Our operatives are intensifying efforts to locate and dismantle illegal warehouses and storage sites where vandals may be stockpiling stolen infrastructure. The FCT must be free from the grip of these criminal elements.”

The operation follows a breakthrough last week when the command, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force, set up by the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, intercepted and recovered vandalised public infrastructure.

Disu commended residents for their continued support and urged them to remain vigilant, stressing that protecting public assets was a shared responsibility.

The command also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity using the designated emergency contact numbers.
