Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has explained the reasons behind his decision to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Pantami was officially affirmed as the PDP governorship candidate during the party’s affirmation exercise held on Tuesday. The exercise saw him emerge as the sole aspirant for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the PDP Gombe Electoral Panel, Gregory Yenlong, disclosed that Pantami secured a total of 52,955 votes across the state’s three senatorial districts.
According to the breakdown, he polled 16,781 votes in Gombe North, 12,752 votes in Gombe Central, and 23,422 votes in Gombe South, confirming his overwhelming endorsement by party delegates and supporters.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation, Pantami stated that his decision to seek the governorship position was driven by a desire to tackle poverty, promote inclusive governance, and improve the living conditions of residents across the state.
He stressed that his ambition was not centred on personal gain, but on public service and development.
Pantami said the diversity of Gombe State should serve as a source of strength and unity rather than division, adding that his administration would focus on policies capable of transforming the economic fortunes of the people.
The former minister expressed concern over the level of poverty in the state, noting that Gombe remains among the poorest states in Nigeria. He explained that his development agenda would prioritise education, modern agriculture, industrialisation, and the attraction of foreign direct investment.
According to him, the introduction of smart agriculture and investment-friendly policies would help create jobs, boost productivity, and reduce hardship among residents.
