President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declined assent to the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Education, Numan, Adamawa State.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, and read by his Deputy, Benjamin Kalu, during plenary on Tuesday, February 4, President Tinubu outlined his reasons for rejecting the bill.
According to the President, Section 22 of the bill assigns the authority for the disposal of land to the governor, whereas it should be vested in the President in cases involving land belonging to Federal Government entities, such as universities.
Kalu also disclosed that President Tinubu pointed out the omission of a critical proposal in Section 25(b) of the bill, which failed to specify provisions for the Award of Degrees by the proposed institution.
The House of Representatives passed the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Education, Numan, last year and subsequently forwarded it to the President for assent.
