Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has criticized the Federal Government’s economic policies, claiming they are causing severe hardship for Nigerians.

Speaking at the Northeast Zonal meeting of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee in Bauchi, the governor expressed his concerns about the economic challenges facing the country.

“Nigeria is bleeding. We are suffering. There is too much anger, and the FG’s economic policy is not working,” Fintiri declared, highlighting the frustration citizens face due to rising inflation, unemployment, and a declining standard of living. He called for an urgent shift in economic strategy, urging the Federal Government to reconsider its approach to managing the nation’s economy.

“Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” Fintiri added, suggesting that foreign-driven economic models are not suitable for Nigeria’s unique socio-economic realities. His remarks reflect a growing sentiment that government policies should prioritize local needs over external economic prescriptions.

Fintiri warned that the continued implementation of ineffective policies would only deepen the suffering of Nigerians and further disconnect the government from the people. His comments underscore the urgency of adopting a more people-centred economic approach, emphasizing the welfare of citizens over macroeconomic indicators.
