Otti to Flag Off Umuahia Stadium City Project as Super Eagles Star Chukwueze Commends Abia’s Transformation

Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has announced plans to commence the construction of a new Umuahia Stadium City before the end of 2026, describing the ambitious project as a major investment in sports, tourism, and economic development.

The governor made the disclosure while receiving a delegation led by Abia-born Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze at the Government House in Umuahia. Chukwueze, accompanied by friends, visited the governor to express appreciation for his support and presence during the burial of his late mother.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Otti revealed that the state government had already secured land for the project and was currently carrying out feasibility studies ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony.

According to the governor, the proposed facility will go beyond a conventional stadium and will be developed as a comprehensive sports city designed to attract investment and stimulate economic activities.

He explained that the project would feature modern sporting infrastructure alongside hotels, residential estates, and other commercial attractions aimed at transforming the surrounding area into a vibrant destination.

Governor Otti noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader vision of positioning Abia as an investment-friendly state. He encouraged Abians at home and in the diaspora to take advantage of emerging opportunities by investing in sectors that align with their interests.

The governor also congratulated Chukwueze on his achievements in international football, describing him as a worthy ambassador of Abia State and Nigeria. He assured the football star of the state government’s continued support and commitment to celebrating and encouraging Abians who excel in their respective fields.

While sympathizing with the player over the loss of his mother, Governor Otti described the death as a painful and monumental loss. He encouraged Chukwueze to remain strong, bear the loss with courage, and continue maintaining strong ties with his roots in Abia.

In his remarks, Chukwueze praised the governor’s leadership and ongoing developmental projects across the state, saying the visible transformation in infrastructure reflects purposeful governance.

The AC Milan forward stated that he had been closely following developments in Abia and was impressed by the pace of progress, particularly in road construction and urban renewal projects.

According to him, his recent visit to Umuahia revealed significant improvements compared to previous years, noting that better roads and enhanced infrastructure have improved mobility and changed the overall outlook of the state capital.

Chukwueze commended Governor Otti for what he described as remarkable achievements and expressed confidence in the administration’s vision for the state.

Reacting to the proposed Umuahia Stadium City project, the footballer described it as a strategic investment that would boost sports development, nurture young talents, and attract sporting events and visitors from across the world.

He further disclosed his intention to contribute to sports development in Abia by investing in initiatives targeted at empowering young people and creating opportunities for future generations.

Chukwueze emphasized that Abia remains his home and a vital part of his success story, adding that he is committed to giving back to the community that helped shape his football career.
