VIDEO: Delta Residents React as Governor Declares Tinubu’s 2027 Victory His Top Political Mission

Delta Governor Oborevwori faces criticism after declaring support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election while residents raise concerns over local development issues.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has come under intense public scrutiny following comments suggesting that supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 has become a major political priority for his administration.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television on June 2, the governor indicated that his own political future is largely secure, citing his performance record and existing political arrangements regarding power rotation in the state. According to Oborevwori, this has allowed him to focus attention on ensuring strong support for President Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.

The governor praised the economic and fiscal reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, arguing that they have significantly increased federal allocations to states. He stated that Delta State has benefited from improved revenue inflows, enabling his government to meet financial obligations, including prompt payments to contractors handling various projects across the state.

Oborevwori also appealed to residents to support the president, describing Tinubu as someone with strong ties to Delta State. He referenced the Itsekiri heritage of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, suggesting that the connection makes the president part of the Delta family.

However, the governor’s remarks quickly generated widespread reactions on social media and other public platforms. A video clip from the interview circulated online, drawing criticism from many Nigerians who questioned the timing and focus of his comments.

Critics argued that the governor should prioritize addressing pressing challenges facing residents, including insecurity, unemployment, electricity shortages, and deteriorating infrastructure. Others expressed concern over unfinished road projects and the economic difficulties many citizens continue to experience despite increased government revenues.

Several commentators contended that elected officials should concentrate on improving living conditions and delivering visible development outcomes before shifting attention to future electoral campaigns. The debate has since fueled broader discussions about governance priorities, accountability, and the balance between political strategy and public service delivery.

Supporters of the governor, however, maintain that acknowledging the benefits of federal policies and building political alliances are legitimate aspects of governance. They argue that improved federal-state cooperation could ultimately contribute to greater development opportunities for Delta State.
