NADF Begins Distribution of Free Fertilizers to Farmers Under Federal Programme
The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has commenced the distribution of free fertilizers and agrochemicals to thousands of smallholder farmers across Nigeria under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Farm Inputs Support Programme (FISP).
The initiative is aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, improving food security, and reducing the financial burden on farmers as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s agricultural sector.
According to official information released by NADF, the programme is expected to benefit approximately 128,930 farmers spread across 25 states of the federation. The distribution exercise has already begun in various geopolitical zones, with the South-West region recording significant progress.
NADF disclosed that about 20,160 farmers in the South-West have already received a total of 80,640 bags of fertilizer as part of the intervention programme. The agency noted that the distribution process will continue in other regions to ensure eligible farmers receive the necessary support for the current farming season.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), thousands of farmers are scheduled to receive their farm inputs as the programme officially expands to the nation’s capital.
The agency stated that the intervention is being implemented under the Federal Government’s broader agricultural support agenda designed to increase crop yields, encourage local food production, and support small-scale farmers nationwide.
To prevent diversion and illegal resale, NADF emphasized that all fertilizers distributed under the programme are locally produced and clearly labelled “Not For Sale.” The measure is intended to ensure that the products reach their intended beneficiaries and are used strictly for agricultural purposes.
Stakeholders believe the initiative will help improve farming output, lower production costs, and contribute to the government’s efforts to address food inflation and strengthen Nigeria’s food supply chain.
