President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Kunle Elebute as the new Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening corporate governance, transparency, and investor confidence in the country’s financial ecosystem.

The appointment was announced as part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to enhance accountability and promote global best practices in Nigeria’s financial reporting system.

Mr. Elebute is a highly respected Chartered Accountant and financial management consultant with more than four decades of professional experience spanning Nigeria, West Africa, and international markets. He previously served as Senior Partner and Chief Executive Officer of KPMG Nigeria, Chairman of KPMG West Africa, and Chairman of KPMG Africa, while also holding positions on KPMG’s regional and global boards.

His extensive expertise covers auditing, financial advisory services, risk management, corporate governance, and strategic business transformation. Throughout his career, he has advised several leading institutions across sectors such as financial services, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, consumer goods, and public administration.

According to the Presidency, the appointment comes at a critical period as the Financial Reporting Council intensifies efforts to align Nigeria’s financial reporting and corporate governance framework with international standards and deepen collaborations under strategic trade and investment partnerships.

The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria is the country’s foremost regulatory body responsible for establishing and enforcing standards in financial reporting, auditing, valuation, actuarial practice, and corporate governance. Its mandate is central to promoting market integrity, protecting investors, and sustaining confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

Industry stakeholders have described Mr. Elebute’s appointment as a strategic move that could further enhance Nigeria’s investment climate by promoting transparency, accountability, and improved regulatory oversight.

The Tinubu administration expressed confidence that Elebute’s wealth of experience and leadership capacity would strengthen the council’s mandate and contribute to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at building a more competitive and investment-friendly economy.
