The Abia State Police Command has apprehended two suspected vandals linked to the destruction and theft of government infrastructure in Uzuakoli, as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect public assets across the state.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives attached to the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters arrested the suspects during a stop-and-search operation conducted along Uzuakoli Road on June 19, 2026.

The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ogonna and 25-year-old Ifeanychukwu Oko, both residents of Lohom in Uzuakoli Local Government Area of Abia State.

Police said the arrest was made following actionable intelligence that led officers to intercept the suspects while they were transporting suspected stolen items in an auto-rickshaw, popularly known as a Keke Napep.

Items recovered from the suspects include 49 pieces of angle irons, 86 electrical poles, two saws, three spanners, and three small iron boards, all believed to have been vandalised and removed from government installations.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the vandalism and theft of the recovered materials.

The Abia State Police Command disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.
