The Abia State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for the late Miss Wendy Achumba, whose tragic death has continued to generate widespread concern among students and residents across the state.
Speaking during the burial ceremony held on Friday, July 3, 2026, in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Hon. Chinedu Nwosu, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of Governor Alex Otti to the bereaved family and assured them that the government would remain steadfast in pursuing justice for those responsible for the young woman’s death.
The funeral attracted dignitaries, government officials, student leaders, stakeholders, and hundreds of students who gathered to pay their final respects to Wendy Achumba.
Among those in attendance were the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike; the Chief Security Officer of the Abia State Government House, CSP Ken Nwosu; representatives of the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Blessing Felix; National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Senate Chief Clerk, Comrade Chinyelu Okolie Chinelo; Deputy Coordinator of NANS South-East Zone F, Comrade Unique Kelechi; NAPS South-East Coordinator, Comrade Ofoegbu Victoria; as well as students from across Abia State and the College of Nursing, Umulogwo, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.
Addressing mourners on behalf of Governor Alex Otti, Hon. Nwosu described Wendy’s death as a painful loss, noting that her promising future was cruelly cut short by a senseless act of violence.
He assured the Achumba family that although Wendy had been laid to rest, the determination of the Abia State Government to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice remains unwavering.
According to him, the government will continue to stand by the family throughout the legal process until justice is fully achieved, emphasizing that the administration will not tolerate violence against innocent citizens.
Hon. Nwosu also expressed appreciation to everyone who attended the burial despite their busy schedules, particularly the large number of students from Abia State and the College of Nursing, Umulogwo, who turned out in solidarity with their late colleague.







He described the overwhelming support as a testament to Wendy Achumba’s impact on those around her and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.
The burial ceremony served as both a solemn farewell and a renewed call for justice, as the Abia State Government reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that the circumstances surrounding Wendy Achumba’s death are thoroughly investigated and that those found culpable face the full weight of the law.
