The Federal Government has confirmed the successful rescue of all the pupils and teachers who were abducted in the Orire area of Oyo State, bringing relief to their families and the affected communities.
According to an update shared by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the rescue operation was carried out by Nigerian security agencies after sustained efforts to locate and free the victims. The operation ended with all the kidnapped pupils and teachers safely recovered.
Security operatives also recorded major breakthroughs during the mission. Eight suspected kidnappers were arrested and are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation, while several other members of the criminal group were neutralised during the operation.
The statement further clarified that no ransom or prisoner exchange was involved in securing the victims’ freedom. Authorities dismissed reports suggesting that the government agreed to release a notorious terrorist kingpin in exchange for the abductees. The suspect, who was reportedly demanded by the kidnappers, remains in custody and is being prosecuted for alleged criminal offences.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping, terrorism and other violent crimes, stressing that security agencies will continue to pursue criminal elements threatening the safety of Nigerians.
