The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has asked South-East governors and religious leaders to henceforth place a ban on preserving dead bodies in the mortuaries.

The group warned about the dire consequences of continuously keeping dead bodies in mortuaries across Igbo land.

Comrade Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB, made the call in a statement made available on Monday.

Madu said dead bodies in mortuaries were wandering around without rest because they were not buried or committed to mother earth.

“The wandering and restless spirits of unburied dead bodies in mortuaries are continuously possessing the younger people, leading and influencing them into all manners of criminalities, evil and wicked acts without fear of the dire consequences of their actions.

“These spiritual influences have erased their godly consciences and replaced them with all kinds of immorality, lust for blood shedding, lust for wealth and mundane things.

This raging possession of Igbo Youths and young men have created a strong urge of getting quick wealth without meaningful work or trading.

“The tap root of all criminal tendencies, evil and wicked activities in the lives of the young men and women in our society is the possession and influence of the spirits of unburied dead bodies in mortuaries,” he stated.

MASSOB urged church leaders to ban bringing in dead bodies in a casket inside a church that’s presumed to be a holy temple.

According to the group, “The entrance of dead bodies in a casket inside the house of God corrupts the holiness of the church.

“The spirit of a dead person can never rest until it is buried.

“It is an abomination in Igbo traditional culture to keep a dead body for more than four Igbo market days.

“MASSOB urges the Igbo traditional and religious leaders, including the Igbo governors to ban this trend of keeping dead bodies in mortuaries.

“We appeal to our governors to ban mortuary businesses and services in Igbo land.”
