The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has promised to recall and reinstate about 10,000 workers allegedly retired prematurely if elected governor in the 2027 governorship election.
Anosike made the pledge while addressing residents during a series of town hall meetings across Abia State, where he outlined his vision for improving workers’ welfare, healthcare, and food security.
The legal practitioner said his administration would prioritize fairness, due process, and the protection of workers’ rights, insisting that civil service rules must be respected at all times.
According to him, public servants should only retire in line with the provisions of the law, either after completing 35 years of service or upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
“As a welfarist, we play by the rules. If the law says you work for 35 years or retire at 60 years of age, that is what should apply,” Anosike said.
The PDP governorship hopeful alleged that previous administrations ignored established civil service regulations, leading to the premature retirement of thousands of workers. He argued that restoring those affected to their positions would not only correct what he described as an injustice but also strengthen the state’s workforce with experienced personnel.
He maintained that removing thousands of breadwinners from employment had severe economic and social consequences for families across the state.
“When you throw 10,000 breadwinners out of work illegally, you create 10,000 households in crisis. A responsible government must correct that injustice,” he stated.
Beyond employment, Anosike also unveiled plans to introduce a comprehensive state health insurance scheme aimed at making quality healthcare more accessible, particularly for low-income households and pregnant women. He said his administration would subsidize medical treatment to reduce the financial burden on vulnerable residents.
The PDP candidate also pledged to address food insecurity through policies designed to improve citizens’ standard of living, expressing confidence that his government would ensure better access to food and economic opportunities for residents.
“When I assume office in 2027, you will have three square meals and even snacks in between,” he said while highlighting his administration’s welfare agenda.
Anosike emphasized that his government would place greater attention on human capital development, arguing that investing in people’s welfare should come before physical infrastructure.

According to him, a healthy, productive, and financially secure population remains the foundation for sustainable growth and meaningful development in Abia State.
