The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has alerted the public to a fake document circulating on social media claiming that the results of candidates from several secondary schools were withheld over alleged examination malpractice.
According to WAEC, the viral notice did not originate from the examination body and should be completely disregarded. The council emphasized that the document is false and does not represent any official communication from its office.
The fake notice, which bears the heading “Withheld of Results Due to Alleged Cases of Malpractice” and lists several schools across Nigeria, has been widely shared online. However, WAEC has clarified that the information is fabricated and should not be relied upon by candidates, parents, school administrators, or members of the public.
WAEC advised the public to verify all information relating to examinations and results through its official communication channels before sharing or acting on such messages. The council also warned against spreading unverified information, noting that fake news can create unnecessary panic and damage the reputation of schools and candidates.
Candidates and school authorities are encouraged to rely only on official WAEC announcements for accurate updates regarding the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other examination-related matters.
