Residents of Egwuleleke Autonomous Community in Okaiuga Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, have expressed immense joy following the official commissioning of a new 33KV transformer provided by the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
The transformer, which was officially switched on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, has restored electricity to the community after more than eight months of darkness caused by a faulty transformer that had become irreparable.
The successful installation of the transformer was facilitated through the efforts of former Commissioner for Environment and Finance, Dr. Ahanaya Uko, who appealed to Governor Otti on behalf of the community.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Uko praised Governor Otti for fulfilling his promise to provide the transformer, describing him as a leader whose actions speak louder than words.
According to him, his confidence in Governor Otti is based on over 36 years of knowing him as a man of integrity, excellence, and unwavering commitment to public service.
Dr. Uko explained that his famous declaration of “No Vacancy in Government House” was inspired by the governor’s visible achievements across Abia State.
“Governor Alex Otti has demonstrated that leadership is about keeping promises. When I requested a transformer for my people, he assured me he would provide one, and today he has fulfilled that promise. The transformation taking place in Umuahia and across Abia is remarkable,” he said.
He further recalled making significant personal sacrifices to support Governor Otti before the 2023 election, expressing satisfaction that the governor has remained committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.
Also speaking at the event, the member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, popularly known as “The Man with Excess Grace,” described the transformer project as only a fraction of the numerous development initiatives being executed by the Otti administration.
Akaliro noted that the state government has distributed approximately 50 transformers to various communities across Abia State, with plans to provide even more to underserved areas.
He urged residents to appreciate the governor’s efforts by continuing to support his administration, emphasizing that improved infrastructure and public services have become hallmarks of the current government.
The Secretary of the Transformer Installation Committee, Elder Ozed Ejiogu, who is also a former President-General of Egwuleleke Autonomous Community, commended Governor Otti for responding promptly to the community’s request.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the President-General of Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Improvement Union and other stakeholders whose collective efforts ensured the successful installation of the transformer.
Community members described the restoration of electricity as a major milestone that will boost businesses, improve security, enhance education, and improve the overall quality of life in Egwuleleke.

The commissioning ceremony attracted traditional leaders, community stakeholders, political office holders, and residents, all of whom celebrated the return of stable electricity after months of hardship.
