Sowore Blasts Adeleke Over Tinubu Visit, Raises Alarm Over Alleged 50 Election-Related Deaths in Osun

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke following the governor’s recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sowore, in a post shared on his official X account on Thursday, August 20, 2026, questioned the political significance of Adeleke’s visit and alleged that it could be connected to emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The AAC chieftain also made a serious allegation concerning election-related violence in Osun State, claiming that nearly 50 residents had lost their lives in incidents linked to electoral activities.

Reacting to photographs from Adeleke’s meeting with Tinubu, Sowore suggested that the encounter represented a political understanding between the two politicians.

He criticised Adeleke’s relationship with the President and described Tinubu in strongly negative terms, while questioning the governor’s decision to meet with him amid concerns over election-related violence in Osun.

Sowore further alleged that almost 50 Osun residents had been killed in election-related incidents. He also referred to another reported death in the state, which he claimed occurred on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.

The presidential candidate linked the alleged killings to the wider political atmosphere surrounding the Osun governorship election and accused political actors of prioritising political interests despite the human cost of electoral violence.

However, the claim of nearly 50 election-related deaths is an allegation made by Sowore and should not be treated as an independently verified figure without confirmation from relevant security agencies, electoral authorities or other credible sources.

Sowore’s comments come against the backdrop of increasing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections, with alliances and engagements among major political figures expected to attract heightened public attention.

Governor Adeleke’s meeting with President Tinubu has therefore become a subject of political debate, particularly as political parties and aspirants position themselves for the next general election.
