The committee’s mandate is of critical national importance and includes:
(a) Investigating the state of oil and gas pipelines across the country, particularly focusing on vandalism, operational failures, and their devastating economic impacts;
(b) Assessing the effectiveness of existing security and maintenance systems in safeguarding vital petroleum infrastructure;
(c) Reviewing government interventions and their impact on pipeline protection to chart a more effective course forward;
(d) Engaging key stakeholders — including NNPCL, NUPRC, NMDPRA, security agencies, host communities, and civil society organizations — to craft sustainable and inclusive solutions;
(e) Delivering a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations within four (4) weeks;
(f) Urging immediate repair and rehabilitation of pipelines linking Ore Depot in Ondo State to enable the resumption of critical operations;
(g) Liaising with stakeholders to assess and restore the Ore Depot, a strategic petroleum asset vital to regional and national energy distribution.
This strategic committee is charged with ensuring the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s oil and gas pipeline networks — a national economic artery — to avert further losses, enhance energy security, and restore confidence in critical infrastructure management.
