Yesterday, May 16th, 2025, we had the honor of inaugurating the Executives of the National Association of Abia State Students (NAASS). The event drew significant interest from the state, with His Excellency, Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, ably represented by his Chief of Staff, Pst. Caleb Ajagba, PhD.



During the ceremony at the Faculty of Law, Abia State University, Uturu, Umuahia Campus, Governor Otti charged the new executives to lead with honesty, transparency, fear of God, and a deep sense of responsibility. He emphasized the importance of reflecting the values and spirit of the new Abia, bridging the gap between government and students, and remaining standard-bearers of unity and progress.
The Chief of Staff, representing the Governor, highlighted the theme “Beyond the Books: Shaping Scholars and Building Leaders” as timely and reflective of the need for a shift in education perception. He noted that under Governor Otti’s leadership, Abia is experiencing a renaissance in education, with significant investments in school rehabilitation, teacher welfare, and ICT-driven learning environments.


The Governor congratulated the new NAASS executives, urging them to remain focused and develop leadership qualities. As Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, i thanked Governor Otti for his continued support for student development initiatives.


Other notable attendees included the Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Chijioke Collins; the Honorable Commissioner for Youth; represented by Comrade, Onyebuchi Chukwu, SA to governor on youth development, Comrade, Michael Ukpabi, SA to deputy Governor on media and publicity and other Representatives from the Governor’s office. The NAASSIEC Returning Officer, Comrade Nnadozie Nkemjika(DonTouch), congratulated the new executives, emphasizing that their emergence was a call to serve.
The event marked a significant milestone in the journey of Abia State students, and I am confident that the new executives will make a positive impact under the leadership of Governor Dr. Alex Otti.
