Senator Anthony Ani, a respected agricultural expert, brought forward the urgent proposal titled “Urgent Need to Investigate with an Intention to Halt the Continuous Unwholesome Practices of Chemical Ripening of Fruits Among Fruit Sellers in Nigeria.”
Senators engaged in passionate discussions about the widespread use of artificial ripening agents across Nigerian markets. They specifically targeted calcium carbide, a toxic substance containing arsenic and phosphorus that poses severe health risks. The legislative body immediately directed NAFDAC and other agencies to investigate these dangerous practices thoroughly.
