The United States has commended Nigeria for securing the convictions of 386 militants, describing the development as a major milestone in the country’s fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
In a statement, Massad Boulus, Senior Advisor to Donald Trump on Arab and African Affairs, praised the Nigerian government’s renewed efforts to fast-track terrorism-related prosecutions. He noted that the convictions, achieved after years of judicial delays, signal a stronger commitment to justice and accountability.
According to Boulus, the United States recognizes Nigeria’s determination to address extremism through lawful and transparent judicial processes. He emphasized that speeding up trials while maintaining fairness is critical to restoring public confidence in the legal system.
He further stressed that adherence to the rule of law remains a cornerstone for ensuring national security, stability, and long-term peace. The US, he added, will continue to support initiatives aimed at improving judicial efficiency and strengthening institutional integrity in Nigeria.
