The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has donated ₦1.7 million to support efforts to restore electricity supply in Ofeke Azueke Ibeku community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The intervention has been welcomed by residents of the community, who described the donation as timely and significant in helping to address the challenges associated with the prolonged power outage.
According to reports, the financial support is intended to assist the community in energising its transformer and restoring electricity supply to homes and businesses. The absence of electricity has reportedly affected daily activities and economic operations within the community.
The latest gesture has also revived memories of Aguocha’s previous intervention on the longstanding infrastructure challenges confronting the area.
In March 2025, the federal lawmaker appealed to Abia State Governor Alex Otti to intervene in the long-abandoned Ofeke-Azueke-Ndume-Ibeku road. The appeal was made during the flag-off of other road projects in the area, with Aguocha highlighting the importance of the route to farmers, traders, commuters and residents. Governor Otti subsequently directed the relevant authorities to assess the road for intervention.
Residents say the combination of advocacy for road infrastructure and direct support for electricity restoration has strengthened their perception of Aguocha as a representative who pays attention to grassroots concerns.
Expressing appreciation for the ₦1.7 million donation, members of Ofeke Azueke Ibeku thanked the lawmaker for supporting their efforts to restore power and described the gesture as one they would not take for granted.
They also prayed for God’s continued protection, strength and blessings upon Aguocha, while expressing their appreciation for his interventions in the community.
The development comes as discussions surrounding constituency representation and community development continue to gain attention ahead of the 2027 general elections. The people of Ofeke, in their appreciation message, said they would remember those who supported the community at critical moments.
