Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, will on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, officially flag off the construction of Old Express Road and Uratta Road in Aba, marking another step in the state government’s ongoing infrastructure development drive.
The projects, being implemented under the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ABSIID), cover 3.95 kilometres of Old Express Road and 3.9 kilometres of Uratta Road.
The planned road construction is part of the state government’s efforts to improve road connectivity, ease transportation and strengthen access between communities within Aba and its surrounding areas.
The flag-off ceremony is scheduled to hold at Port Harcourt Road by Uratta Junction, Aba, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The projects are expected to contribute to the state’s broader infrastructure development agenda, which focuses on improving road networks and supporting movement within urban communities. Their implementation will mark a further milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to address infrastructure needs across Abia State.
In a notice announcing the event, the Abia State Government invited government officials, local government mayors, traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, Labour Party supporters and members of various support and pro-government groups to attend the ceremony.
According to the announcement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on October 20, 2026, all invited guests are expected to be seated before the arrival of Governor Otti and his entourage.
The flag-off of the two road projects underscores the administration’s continued focus on infrastructure development in Aba, one of Abia State’s major commercial centres.
