The Federal Government of Nigeria has released important instructions to applicants of the ongoing Fire Service recruitment exercise, warning that compliance with the outlined requirements will be a key factor before shortlisting begins.
The announcement, made through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), is part of the nationwide recruitment drive designed to strengthen manpower across critical security and emergency response agencies.

Key Guidelines for Applicants
According to CDCFIB, candidates must prioritize:
- Physical Fitness: Applicants are advised to maintain regular exercise routines such as jogging, stretching, and light cardio to build stamina for upcoming screening activities.
- Good Health: Medical fitness will be an essential requirement. Candidates are encouraged to eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and proteins, while avoiding habits that may compromise health.
- Mental Readiness: Beyond physical health, applicants should prepare themselves psychologically for the demands of paramilitary service, ensuring adequate rest and sleep to improve focus and resilience.
The Board emphasized that the recruitment exercise covers superintendent, inspector, and assistant cadres. However, applicants are strictly instructed to apply to only one service under the recruitment umbrella to avoid automatic disqualification.
Why These Guidelines Matter
The CDCFIB explained that emergency response roles, particularly within the Federal Fire Service, require individuals who can endure physical challenges, make swift decisions, and remain mentally alert in high-pressure situations. Ensuring candidates prepare ahead of time will help streamline the recruitment process and reduce attrition during training.
Government’s Assurance
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to fairness and transparency in the recruitment exercise. It assured the public that only candidates who meet the required standards of discipline, competence, and health will be shortlisted.
As the shortlisting date draws near, applicants are urged to strictly follow the issued guidelines and remain updated on official announcements through the CDCFIB portal and accredited media channels.
