Local sources said the victims were working on their farms in the morning when they were attacked.

Junaid Jibrin, a legislative aide to Senator Muhammad Ndume, representing Borno South, commented on the incident in a Facebook post. He stated that five farmers lost their lives during the assault while carrying out routine farming activities.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nanum Keneath, said the police had not yet received official information regarding the incident. Similarly, Reuben Kovangiya, spokesperson of Operation Hadin Kai, the Nigerian military’s counter-insurgency force in the North-East, said he could not confirm the report at the time.

In recent days, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have carried out a series of offensives targeting insurgent hideouts in Tamsu Ngamdu, Dalakaleri, Gaza, and Loskori Kura villages. The operations, conducted between Saturday and Sunday, reportedly led to the death of about 20 insurgents.

The latest incident highlights the persistent security challenges faced by farming communities in Borno State, where insurgent attacks continue to threaten lives and livelihoods despite ongoing military operations.
