The Ebonyi State government has broken its silence after businessman and politician Emmanuel Eze rejected his recent appointment to the state’s Economic Advisory Committee. Governor Francis Nwifuru had announced the constitution of the Economic Advisory Committee as part of his administration’s strategy to drive growth and development in Ebonyi. On August 29, 2025, a formal letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezuruike, conveyed the appointment to Eze. But in a surprising twist, the businessman declined the offer—an action that has since drawn attention.

Reacting further, the governor’s aide insisted that Eze’s refusal does not diminish the credibility of the committee. He highlighted that the advisory body is composed of respected professionals with proven records both in Nigeria and abroad.
“No one is indispensable,” Oketa emphasized. “The Governor has assembled a credible, competent, and diverse team. The refusal of one person does not invalidate the strength of the group or elevate him above those who accepted to serve. The vision of Ebonyi’s economic future is far bigger than any individual.”
