Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on September 16, 2025, hosted Nigerian international football star and Super Eagles captain, Kenneth Omeruo, at the Government House, Umuahia. Omeruo, who hails from Abia State, visited alongside Barr. Amobi Ezeaku, General Manager of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, in what was described as both a courtesy and working visit.
During the meeting, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to Omeruo for acknowledging the achievements of his administration and reaffirmed his government’s readiness to collaborate with the football star to advance youth development in the state. He emphasized that Abia is richly blessed with young talents in sports, academics, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and assured that his team would work out the details of the proposed partnership with Omeruo.

Omeruo, in his remarks, praised the Governor for restoring the dignity of Abians and delivering impactful governance. He revealed that he has consistently shared positive developments from Abia on his social media platforms and is proud of his roots. The Super Eagles captain also unveiled his plans to launch a talent hunt initiative in Abia to discover and mentor young footballers, particularly those aspiring to play for top European clubs. He requested the state government’s collaboration to make the initiative a reality.
Barr. Amobi Ezeaku, who gave the vote of thanks, applauded the quality of leadership emerging from the South-East region, describing it as a source of pride and inspiration.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Strategy Officer Mr. Chinenye Mba Uzoukwu, Technical Assistant to the Governor Mr. Charles Egonye, and Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth, Comrade Onyebuchi Chukwu.
