Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to partnering with local and international investors in the areas of power generation, transmission, and sustainable waste management.
During a meeting on Sunday, September 21, 2025, with a delegation from INNOV Power Solutions led by its President, Engr. Mohammed Konate, Governor Otti welcomed the company’s interest in investing in the State. The team, which flew in from the United States, expressed readiness to introduce cutting-edge solutions that could revolutionize Abia’s power and waste management sectors.
Power Generation and Transmission Across More Local Government Areas
Governor Otti emphasized that while Aba and its surrounding nine Local Government Areas currently benefit from power supplied through Geometric Power, there are still eight LGAs — including Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Arochukwu, Bende, Isiukwuato, Ohafia, and Umunneochi — that require expanded energy coverage. He noted that his administration has established a regulatory agency and management board to streamline energy projects in the State.
“Power generation is critical because without it, there’s nothing to transmit or distribute,” Governor Otti stated. He invited INNOV Power Solutions to work closely with the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities to explore areas of collaboration, particularly in renewable and alternative energy projects.
Sustainable Waste Management Initiatives
Highlighting his administration’s focus on cleanliness and urban renewal, Governor Otti recalled the declaration of a state of emergency on waste management shortly after assuming office. This initiative led to the clearance of major refuse dumps and significant improvements in environmental sanitation across the State.
While acknowledging the progress achieved so far, the Governor emphasized the need for permanent, innovative solutions. He encouraged INNOV Power Solutions to consider waste-to-power projects but noted the global challenge of profitability without subsidies. “A permanent solution would be welcomed,” he said, adding that new technologies that convert waste into energy or useful by-products could be transformative for Abia.

A Warm Reception for Innovation
Engr. Mohammed Konate, President of INNOV Power Solutions, praised Governor Otti’s administration for its developmental strides and expressed optimism about making Abia State a model for energy and environmental innovation. He revealed that his company plans to introduce solutions not yet implemented in Nigeria, making Abia a pioneer in adopting advanced technologies.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, and the Commissioner for Power & Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, underscoring the State Government’s unified approach to driving infrastructure and environmental development.
