Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has officially sworn in two new Commissioners and a Special Adviser as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at improving governance and service delivery in the state.

The ceremony, held at the Government House in Umuahia on September 23, 2025, saw the administration of the Oath of Office and Allegiance by the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Barr. Paul Ogubunka.

Dr. Mrs. Salome Nkemakolam Obiukwu – Commissioner for Trade and Commerce

Architect Chiemela Charles Uzoije – Commissioner for Housing

Prince Christian Enweremadu – Special Adviser on Agriculture

In addition, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije has been appointed Commissioner for Lands, while Mr. Kingsley Nwokocha has been redeployed to the Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

Governor Otti’s Commitment to Good Governance

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Otti emphasized that his administration remains focused on injecting new ideas and talents into government to accelerate development and deliver better outcomes for the people of Abia State.

He reiterated his government’s zero tolerance for corruption, warning that any public officer found engaging in misconduct would face immediate consequences.

“Public office is a call to serve, not an invitation to a banquet,” the Governor stated, urging the new appointees to demonstrate integrity, accountability, and dedication.

Governor Otti added that the reshuffle aligns with his administration’s broader strategy of enriching the quality of governance through fresh perspectives and enhanced performance. He also noted that his government has, over the past 28 months, sourced quality talent from within and outside Nigeria to drive his transformation agenda.

New Appointees Pledge Loyalty

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Dr. Mrs. Salome Nkemakolam Obiukwu expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the opportunity to serve and pledged their loyalty and commitment to uphold their oath of office.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior government officials, marking another milestone in the ongoing reforms of the Otti-led administration.
