Tinubu to commission $400m Otakikpo Oil Export Terminal in Rivers, Nigeria’s first new crude facility in 50 years, on October 8, 2025.

President Bola Tinubu is set to commission the newly constructed $400 million Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal in Rivers State on October 8, 2025. This project marks a historic milestone as the first new crude oil export facility to be established in Nigeria in more than five decades.

The Otakikpo terminal is expected to boost Nigeria’s crude oil export capacity, attract foreign investments, and strengthen the country’s position in the global energy market. Beyond economic growth, the project is also projected to create jobs, stimulate local development, and contribute to long-term energy infrastructure advancement in the Niger Delta.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that the facility will enhance Nigeria’s production and export efficiency at a time when the nation is seeking to stabilize revenue from the oil and gas sector.

President Tinubu’s commissioning of the terminal underscores the federal government’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s oil infrastructure and diversifying its export channels.

This landmark commissioning signals a new era for Nigeria’s oil industry, bridging a 50-year gap in crude export infrastructure development.
