Speaking in a recent interview, Okonkwo stated that Jonathan should not even “contemplate” running for office again, emphasizing that the same political forces who once tarnished his image when they were out of power are now the ones in control.
“My own advice is that Jonathan should not consider contesting for the presidency in 2027. He should not contemplate it. The same forces that nearly destroyed his name when they were not in power are now in power, they will take his name to the toilet,” Okonkwo cautioned.
The former presidential spokesperson further urged Jonathan to focus on his international engagements and peacebuilding roles, adding that returning to the political battlefield could undo the respect he has earned globally since leaving office.
Political observers have since weighed in, noting that Okonkwo’s statement reflects growing concerns about recycled leadership and the intense dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
