Tinubu signs key police reform bills but rejects the Transport Technology Bill in a decisive legislative move.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a firm stance on recent legislative proposals, approving one major bill while withholding assent to another, a move that underscores his selective and strategic approach to governance.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that the President had signed into law the bill establishing the Nigeria Police Training Institutes, aimed at strengthening police training and professional standards across the country.

Tinubu also assented to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to improve funding mechanisms for the Nigeria Police Force and enhance accountability within the security sector.

However, the President declined to approve the proposed bill for the establishment of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), stating his decision in a formal letter to the Senate. The reasons for his rejection were not immediately disclosed.

These contrasting decisions highlight Tinubu’s policy focus on security and institutional efficiency, as well as his willingness to withhold approval from bills that may not align with his administration’s strategic goals.
