The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday officially welcomed two newly elected lawmakers into its fold as Senate President Godswill Akpabio administered their oaths of office during plenary.
The new senators, Joseph Ikpea and Emmanuel Nwachukwu, took their seats to represent their respective senatorial districts—Edo Central and Anambra South. Their inauguration follows the conclusion of electoral processes and legal formalities that confirmed their victories.
During the brief ceremony, Senate President Akpabio congratulated the new lawmakers and urged them to uphold the principles of diligence, integrity, and service to their constituents. He emphasized the importance of unity within the National Assembly, noting that the addition of new voices would further strengthen democratic representation.
The swearing-in marks another step in the Senate’s ongoing effort to fill vacant positions and ensure balanced representation across the federation. Both senators are expected to immediately begin legislative duties and contribute to ongoing deliberations on national issues.
