The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued 18 children, including infants, from suspected child traffickers operating across parts of Aba and its environs. The operation also led to the arrest of ten individuals allegedly involved in child stealing and conspiracy.
According to a statement issued on Friday, October 10, 2025, by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, the coordinated raids were carried out following credible intelligence reports that led officers to two hideouts where the victims were being kept.
The suspects arrested include:

Favour Ernest (22), of Aba
Brittney Oyemuwa Zion (22), of Obingwa LGA
The police reported that the operation began after a young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, lodged a complaint on September 27, 2025, alleging that her two children were stolen by a man who had deceived her with a false promise of marriage.

Acting on the report, officers stormed a residence on October 8, rescuing eight children and arresting five suspects. A follow-up operation on October 9 uncovered another location along the Aba–Owerri Road, where seven infants and three children were rescued, and four more suspects apprehended. The final arrest was made on October 10, when another suspect was caught, and one more child rescued.
All rescued children are currently under police protection, while investigations continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting all forms of crime, particularly child trafficking and abduction. He urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines.
