FCT Police parade 12 suspects over the murder of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu and his security guard in Abuja.
According to reports, the suspects were arrested after weeks of intense investigation and intelligence operations carried out across various parts of the FCT and nearby states.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Friday. She revealed that the suspects have confessed to taking part in the brutal attack that claimed the lives of the journalist and his guard.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered a full investigation to ensure all those involved are brought to justice,” Adeh said.
Recovered from the suspects were locally made guns, dangerous weapons, mobile phones, and other personal belongings of the late broadcaster.
The death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s media space. Colleagues and fans described him as a passionate and fearless journalist who was committed to telling the truth.
Maduagwu and his security aide were attacked at his Abuja residence last month, an incident that drew nationwide outrage and calls for improved protection of journalists.
The FCT Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing, promising to provide updates as new findings emerge.
