In a major political twist, sources close to Government House Jalingo have revealed that Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, is preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) shortly after the state’s local government elections in November 2025.

The move, described by insiders as “strategic and inevitable,” is expected to realign Taraba’s political structure with the ruling party at the federal level. Reports indicate that the decision follows months of closed-door consultations between Governor Kefas and key APC leaders in Abuja.

Adding a deeper layer to the political realignment, retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (TY Danjuma) a respected elder statesman from Taraba is said to be fully backing President Bola Tinubu’s administration. This newfound alliance is believed to have influenced Kefas’ decision to cross over, signaling what many see as a powerful new bloc in northern politics.

Political observers say Kefas’ defection could dramatically reshape Taraba’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, strengthening the APC’s foothold in the North-East region.

While official confirmation is yet to be made, sources suggest that an elaborate defection ceremony is being planned to coincide with the post-election celebrations later in November.

If confirmed, Kefas’ switch would mark one of the most significant political moves in Taraba State’s history, potentially uniting two major power figures Governor Kefas and General Danjuma under President Tinubu’s expanding influence.
