Wike dares Peter Obi to compare his 8-year record in Anambra with his 2-year achievements as FCT Minister during a fiery speech in Abuja.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown a direct challenge to Labour Party leader and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, urging him to compare his eight-year record in Anambra with what has been achieved in just two years in the FCT.

Speaking during the commissioning of newly completed road projects in the Mabushi District of Abuja, Wike fired back at Obi’s recent criticisms of the condition of public schools in the FCT. The minister insisted that his administration’s developmental strides speak for themselves, emphasizing that “results, not rhetoric,” define good governance.

“You ruled Anambra for eight years; compare your record with what I’ve done in two years in the FCT,” Wike declared before a cheering crowd.

Wike accused Obi of hypocrisy, alleging that during his time as governor, he diverted Anambra State funds to a commercial bank where he allegedly had personal interests. He argued that such actions showed misplaced priorities and questioned Obi’s moral authority to criticize the FCT administration.

The former Rivers State Governor also dismissed Obi’s public image as a “saintly” leader, describing him as a “social media president” whose popularity thrives more online than in tangible achievements.

Wike said:

“If you really cared about the poor, you would have remembered them while in office, not after leaving power. Governance is about impact, not publicity.”

The FCT Minister further vowed to unveil new interventions in public education and healthcare within the coming weeks to demonstrate what he called “real results-driven governance.” He maintained that the FCT’s infrastructure and educational projects under his leadership represent visible evidence of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

As the verbal clash between both politicians deepens, observers believe the exchange reflects the growing rivalry between the two figures, both known for their outspoken nature and competing visions for governance in Nigeria.
