Former Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to head its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire, scheduled for October 25, 2025.
The regional body announced the appointment on Saturday, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process in the West African nation.

Osinbajo, a respected scholar and statesman, will lead a delegation of distinguished observers drawn from across member states to monitor and assess the conduct of the polls.
According to ECOWAS, the mission will operate under the Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance, which guides its efforts to uphold democratic standards and promote stability across the region.
The observers are expected to engage with key electoral stakeholders, collaborate with other international observer groups, and evaluate the overall fairness and transparency of the election process.
The deployment of the mission underscores ECOWAS’s dedication to strengthening democratic institutions and fostering peaceful transitions of power throughout West Africa.
