Pro-government protesters in Abuja oppose Nnamdi Kanu’s release, urging the judiciary to let the law take its course.

A pro-government group on Monday staged a peaceful protest at Labour Bridge in Abuja, expressing strong opposition to the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The demonstrators, carrying placards with various inscriptions, insisted that the rule of law must prevail in Kanu’s ongoing legal case. They maintained that no individual should be considered above the law and urged the judiciary to allow due process to take its full course.

Speaking during the protest, the group’s spokesperson emphasized that Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty must not be compromised by any form of agitation or pressure aimed at influencing judicial proceedings. The group called on Nigerians to remain patient and trust the legal system to deliver justice fairly and transparently.

The protest comes amid renewed calls from some quarters for the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention facing charges related to treasonable felony and other offenses. The group, however, warned against politicizing the issue, stressing that releasing him without following legal procedures could set a dangerous precedent.

Security operatives were stationed around the area to ensure orderliness, and the demonstration was largely peaceful.
