The Abia State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an official statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on Monday, October 20, 2025, the government described the viral report as “false, mischievous, and politically motivated,” urging the public to disregard it.

According to the statement, the fabricated story was orchestrated by political opponents unsettled by the Governor’s impressive performance and growing popularity across party lines. The government emphasized that the baseless publication is a desperate ploy to distract Abians from the ongoing developmental strides in the state.
Governor Otti, who was overwhelmingly elected under the Labour Party, remains a loyal and committed member of the party. His administration, the statement noted, is focused on rebuilding Abia through accountability, transparency, and people-centered governance.
“Only last week, during the October edition of ‘Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians’, the Governor clearly stated that his interest lies not in political maneuvering or defections but in serving humanity and transforming Abia State,” the statement read.
The Otti-led government has continued to prioritize infrastructure renewal, economic revitalization, youth empowerment, and fiscal discipline principles that align with the core ideals of the Labour Party.
Prince Kanu urged the public to ignore the falsehoods being peddled by political propagandists and focus on the monumental progress being made in the state. He reassured citizens that Governor Alex Otti remains steadfast in his commitment to building a new Abia founded on truth, justice, and equity under the Labour Party’s leadership.
