The Member representing Aba Central Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, has strongly refuted reports alleging that the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, assaulted him during a purported disagreement over Governor Alex Otti’s cash gift.

In a statement issued on October 21, 2025, Hon. Ucheonye described the viral report titled “Abia Assembly Majority Leader Smashes Beer Bottle on Colleague’s Head During Fight Over Governor Otti’s Cash Gift” as false, malicious, and politically motivated.

He emphasized that no altercation, physical or verbal, ever occurred between him and the Majority Leader, dismissing the story as the handiwork of “desperate mischief-makers” seeking to tarnish the image of the Abia State House of Assembly and sow discord among its members.

“There was no such incident, and at no time did any form of disagreement occur between myself and Hon. Uchenna Kalu or any other member of the House,” Ucheonye stated.

He reaffirmed that since the inauguration of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly, lawmakers have worked in unity and mutual respect, focusing on passing quality legislation and supporting the reform-driven administration of Governor Alex Otti.

Hon. Ucheonye condemned those peddling the fake news, warning them to desist or face legal consequences. He urged members of the public to disregard the fabricated story entirely, describing it as an attempt by “faceless political detractors” to disrupt the Assembly’s stability.

“The 8th Abia State House of Assembly remains united, focused, and committed to delivering on its mandate to the people of Abia State,” he reaffirmed.

The lawmaker also clarified that he maintains a cordial working relationship with the Majority Leader and all his colleagues, emphasizing that the House will not be distracted by propaganda or false narratives aimed at derailing its mission.
