Governor Alex Otti has revealed an unusual encounter that underscores growing public confidence in his administration’s infrastructure drive. The Abia State leader shared the experience in a video posted on Symfoni, describing how a resident paid him a surprise visit to appreciate a newly completed road project near his home.
According to the governor, the visit took place in early 2024 when the resident expressed deep satisfaction with the transformation in his community. What began as a simple show of gratitude quickly turned remarkable, as the man offered to financially support the government’s development efforts.
Otti admitted he initially dismissed the gesture, assuming it was symbolic. However, the situation took a different turn when the resident specified a definite amount and promptly fulfilled his pledge.
The governor said he was struck by both the sincerity and speed of the contribution, noting that it challenged his expectations of how citizens typically react to government initiatives.
He explained that the donated funds were subsequently paid into the state’s internally generated revenue account, reinforcing accountability in public finance management.
Reflecting on the incident, Otti highlighted a broader message about governance and public trust. He emphasized that when citizens witness tangible improvements such as well-constructed roads and better infrastructure they are more inclined to support government efforts, sometimes beyond mandatory obligations like taxes.

The governor described the experience as a clear sign that transparency, visible progress, and responsible leadership can deepen trust between the government and the people. He added that such trust fosters a shared commitment to development, where citizens actively participate in building their communities.
