Ghana is mourning the loss of its former First Lady and renowned women’s rights advocate, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away at the age of 76 on Thursday morning after a brief illness.
According to Ghana’s presidential spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the sad news was officially confirmed by the family, who also notified President John Mahama later in the afternoon.

Nana Konadu, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was widely celebrated for her decades-long commitment to empowering women and championing gender equality in Ghana. As a founding figure of the 31st December Women’s Movement, she played a major role in improving the lives of women and children across the country.
In recognition of her contributions, Ghana’s Parliament adjourned its Thursday sitting to honour her memory a reflection of her enduring influence on the nation’s political and social development.
As the nation prepares for a state of mourning, tributes continue to pour in for a woman whose courage, leadership, and vision paved the way for greater female participation in governance and national development.
