MOUAU declares 2025/2026 an amnesty year for students unable to graduate between 2005–2018, excluding malpractice and cultism cases.

In a remarkable decision aimed at fostering inclusivity and fairness, the Senate of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has approved the 2025/2026 academic session as an amnesty year for former students who were unable to graduate between the 2005 and 2018 academic sessions, provided their withdrawal was not linked to examination malpractice or cult-related activities.

According to a statement released by Dr. M.A. Agbai, the Director of Senate Affairs, this decision was reached during the 253rd Regular Senate Meeting held on Thursday, October 2, 2025. The approval came after the Senate considered a compassionate appeal aimed at giving affected students another opportunity to complete their academic programmes.

“This is a welcome development,” Dr. Agbai noted, emphasizing that the initiative seeks to support students who, due to genuine challenges, could not complete their studies within the stipulated time frame. He urged all concerned individuals to seize this rare opportunity to regularize their academic status and graduate.

The University community and alumni have applauded the decision, describing it as a bold and empathetic move that aligns with the institution’s commitment to fairness, rehabilitation, and academic reintegration.
