Senate Makes Key Education Exams Compulsory, Approves New Educational Boards

The Nigerian Senate has passed a new bill that makes it mandatory for every school-age child in the country to sit for the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). This decision aims to strengthen educational standards and ensure that students across all regions follow a unified academic assessment structure.

With the bill in place, students in primary and secondary schools will now be required to take these national examinations before advancing to the next academic level. The move is expected to improve performance monitoring, reinforce the quality of education, and promote equality in access to academic opportunities nationwide.

In addition to this, the Senate also approved the establishment of the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies. This board will regulate, standardize, and supervise Arabic and Islamic education across Nigeria, promoting formal recognition of Islamic studies and ensuring a unified curriculum for institutions offering such programs.

Furthermore, lawmakers passed another bill establishing the Chartered Institute of Training and Development of Nigeria.
