DSS re-arrests Ansaru terrorist behind the 2012 Okene Deeper Life Church College attack after jailbreak. A major breakthrough in Nigeria’s counter-terror fight.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully re-arrested a notorious Ansaru terrorist believed to be behind the deadly 2012 attack on the Deeper Life Church College in Okene, Kogi State.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect, who recently escaped during a coordinated jail-break, was tracked and apprehended after an intensive manhunt involving multiple intelligence units. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s ongoing counter-terrorism operations, especially against extremist factions operating across the northern region.
According to authorities, the re-arrested suspect played a central role in the 2012 Okene church attack that left several victims dead and sparked nationwide outrage. The incident, carried out by members of the Ansaru splinter group, remains one of the most shocking assaults on a religious institution in the country’s recent history.
The DSS noted that the suspect had been on their radar since his escape and was captured following actionable intelligence that pinpointed his hideout. Officials also assured that further investigations are underway to uncover collaborators and prevent future security breaches.
