Tinubu’s appointee Bola Oyebamiji resigns as NIWA MD to pursue his 2026 Osun governorship ambition, citing compliance with electoral laws.
In a major political development, a key appointee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Bola Oyebamiji, has officially stepped down from his role as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Oyebamiji confirmed his resignation late Friday, stating that his decision aligns with Nigeria’s electoral guidelines as he prepares to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

He said, “Yes, I have resigned in accordance with the electoral law to pursue my Osun 2026 governorship ambition.”
A close associate also validated the announcement, describing the move as a strategic step toward focusing fully on his political bid.
According to the source, “Yes, he has resigned. He is contesting, and he wants to face the election properly.”

He is widely respected for his extensive experience across banking, economics, public administration, and politics, which analysts say could shape his 2026 gubernatorial campaign.
