Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, is expected to remain in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a third consecutive night following his inability to satisfy the bail requirements issued by investigators.
Sources indicate that although the EFCC has approved bail in principle, Malami has not yet fulfilled the conditions necessary for his release. As a result, he continues to stay at the Commission’s headquarters while efforts to meet the stipulated requirements are ongoing.
The former justice minister has been undergoing interrogation over alleged financial misconduct linked to his time in office. The ongoing probe is part of the Commission’s broader drive to strengthen accountability within public institutions.
Officials familiar with the situation confirmed that Malami’s legal team is working to complete the documentation and secure the needed guarantors to facilitate his release. However, until the conditions are fully met and verified, the EFCC is expected to maintain custody in line with standard procedure.
