The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially approved the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Meribole as the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG). This follows the Governor’s authorization for the current SSG, Professor Kenneth Kalu (FCA), to proceed on a leave of absence.
According to the statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Dr. Meribole will assume his new responsibilities effective January 1, 2026. He currently serves as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects, where he has played a vital role in advancing developmental initiatives across the state.
Smooth Transition Process Begins December 15, 2025
To ensure a seamless administrative transition, the handover process between Professor Kalu and Dr. Meribole will begin on Monday, December 15, 2025. Both officials are expected to work closely during this period to maintain continuity in government operations and uphold the effective execution of the administration’s policies and programs.

Dr. Meribole is a medical doctor and a respected multi-disciplinary professional.
