Abia State House of Assembly members have unanimously amended the law governing the tenure of Local Government Executive Chairmen in Abia State. This important change extends the tenure of Chairmen from two to four years, providing them with ample time to plan and execute people-oriented projects.
The amendment is a commendable outcome of the collaborative efforts between the Abia State Government, led by Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, and the Federal Government’s vision to revamp local governance.
The State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, deserves special recognition for their role in facilitating this positive change.
With this new tenure, all the Local Government Chairmen can now focus on delivering impactful projects that benefit the people of Abia State, rather than being constrained by a limited two-year term.
This development is expected to usher in a more productive and consistent local government system in Abia State.
