Pantami rejects Gombe APC consensus, citing exclusion, legal concerns, and lack of internal democracy ahead of elections.
Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has openly rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus arrangement for elective positions in Gombe State, describing the process as exclusionary and inconsistent with legal provisions.
Pantami, who is also a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, criticized the consensus model, likening it to a “coronation” rather than a democratic exercise. He argued that the arrangement sidelines key stakeholders and undermines the principles of fairness, transparency, and participation expected in a credible political process.
The former minister’s position was made public through a statement released on Sunday by Suleiman Mohammed. The statement, issued on behalf of Pantami’s supporters and members of the Pantamiyya Movement, emphasized concerns over what it described as a lack of inclusivity in the decision-making process.
According to the statement, the consensus arrangement fails to reflect the collective will of party members and may violate established legal frameworks guiding party primaries and internal democracy. Pantami’s camp insists that any legitimate process must provide equal opportunity for all aspirants to contest fairly.
